When you're ready to change your Mercedes battery, first make sure the car is parked on a flat stretch of road with its emergency brakes engaged. This way the car won't roll while you're working. Next, disconnect the negative charger wire from the battery terminal. You may need to loosen the 10mm bolt that holds it in place on the terminal strip or clamping area with an adjustable wrench if needed (be careful not to force anything). Finally, remove the positive battery terminal. It's critical not to let the positive terminal contact any metal elements of your Mercedes, so wrap it with electrical tape if necessary.

Once the terminals are disconnected, remove the old battery and replace it with your new one. After reattaching the battery, you can reopen the trunk and put the hood back into service position. Press the white button on the driver's side hood strut to lift it, then move over to the passenger's side of the engine bay. The battery sits on that side behind the firewall under a plastic cover.
